Some houses are defined by a single material. The interesting ones know when to put it down.
Italamp was founded in 1975 in Cadoneghe, near Padua in the Veneto, and like most of the region's lighting houses it began with glass. Lead crystal, specifically, cut and composed in the classical Venetian manner the area had been refining for centuries. For its first decades that was the house style, opulent and unapologetically traditional.
What makes Italamp worth watching is what it did next. Rather than stay a crystal company it widened, treating glass as one material among several and bringing the same care to finished metal, bronze and brass, satin and polished surfaces. The whole piece is still developed and made in Italy, in-house, with the artisanal finishing that is hard to fake and easy to feel.
You can read that evolution off the current range. The Airone is the house in its decorative register, a gold-nickel chandelier with the generosity you would expect from a Veneto crystal maker. The Clip and the Halo are the other Italamp, all bronze and restraint, leaning on proportion and finish rather than sparkle. Put them side by side and they barely look related, which is rather the point.
