Gocce 587/SO Linear Pendant

Gocce 587/SO is a horizontal bar, 120cm long, with a globe of white glass hung just beneath one end and a small metal sphere at the other. The bar is a polymer body in a lacquered colour, glossy lava red, matte midnight grey or glossy white, and the small sphere is finished in a contrasting tone.

Gocce means drops. Italamp says the collection is inspired by crystal balls and the coloured bubbles children play with, reworked as minimal design, and that the glass sphere appears to float in the air. The asymmetry is the point: one end carries the light, the other the counterweight of the small sphere. An integrated 14.2W module lights the white glass and gives 1,196 lumens at a colour rendering above 90, a soft, diffused light.

Gocce is designed by Virginia Cei, born in Pisa in 1992. Her first product for Italamp, in 2021, was selected in 2022 for the travelling exhibition 'Ten Women Designers' organised by the Pio Manzù Foundation.

In the room, the 587/SO reads as a line drawn across a space, so it suits a kitchen island, a long dining table or a bar where the globe can sit over one end. At 120cm long and 18cm deep it fits an island of 1.6m to 2.2m. The bar is 28cm deep including the glass, on cables adjustable from 10cm to 100cm, so on a 2.4m ceiling the globe can sit about 75cm to 85cm above the counter. The light is decorative, so over a working island pair it with downlights. The vertical Gocce 587/SV uses the same glass and colours for a bedside or a hall.

DALI dimming is included as standard, which suits a lighting control system; 1-10V and Casambi versions are available.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting in Italy since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
