Muna 4030/SP Pendant

Muna is a moon inside a glass dome. The inner sphere is white blown glass with crystal fragments worked into it, which Italamp says gives it a resemblance to the surface of the moon; around it sits a ribbed outer shade, here in shaded gold over a light gold frame, painted with the hidden face of the moon. At 21cm across, the SP is the smaller of the two Muna pendants.

Danilo De Rossi, the Venetian architect who has been Italamp's art director since 2016, calls Muna an artistic transposition of the planet. The two layers of glass do different jobs: the white sphere holds the light and shows its mottled texture, and the ribbed shade softens it and, in shaded gold, gives it a warm cast. Lit, the sphere shows through the ribs as a pale disc.

In the room, the SP is 21cm across and 37cm tall, a size that works best in numbers: a pair either side of a bed in place of table lamps, three or more at staggered heights over a kitchen island, or a run along a counter. The drop adjusts from 10 to 100cm on electrical cable. The integrated 7.8W module gives 1,000 lumens at a colour rendering over 90, and DALI dimming is included as standard, with TRIAC or Casambi on request. The larger 4030/SG pendant shares the same glass, and the two hang well together at different heights. Italamp also makes the shade in dove or smoked grey glass.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has designed and made lighting since 1975 from its base at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
