Aurora La Petite Portable Table Lamp

Aurora La Petite is the cordless member of Virginia Cei's Aurora collection: a painted metal cylinder, 26cm tall, capped by a tilted painted hood over a globe of white glass. It is rechargeable, dims by touch and needs no socket once charged, so it can move from a dining table to a terrace to a bedside in the course of one evening.

Cei, born in Pisa in 1992, designed her first piece for Italamp in 2021, and her work for the company was chosen in 2022 for the touring exhibition Dieci Donne Designer. Italamp says the collection's name alludes to the light that takes over the sky just before sunrise, and that its finishes recall the colours of early Italian industry. La Petite carries the full palette, and the hood and body are painted in the same colour, so each lamp reads as a single coloured object with a white light under its brim.

In the room, at 15cm across and 1.1kg it suits a side table beside a reading chair, a dining table where a cable would trail, an outdoor table on a dry evening, or a child's bedside. The integrated 2.2W module gives 250 lumens of warm 3000K light at a colour rendering over 90, enough to light a place setting or a book at close range; touch dims it. It charges through a Micro-B connection. This page offers ancient white, baby pink and cappuccino; yellow sunrise and baby blue are also made. Lamps in two or three colours along a long table make the most of the palette.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has designed and made lighting since 1975 from its base at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
