Commission

Bespoke lighting, made to a brief.
Some pieces cannot be bought off a shelf. A fitting scaled to a particular ceiling, a finish matched to a specific scheme, a design that exists only as a sketch and a conversation. This is what the Caspen commission service is for.
We work with designers, architects and private clients to develop lighting that is made rather than chosen. Sometimes that means adapting an existing design, the proportions, the finish, the drop. Sometimes it means starting from nothing but an idea and the room it is meant for. Either way, the work is led by the brief, and the brief is led by you.
Caspen is backed by a business with 41 years in the lighting industry, so the conversation is grounded in what can actually be made, sourced and installed, not just what looks good on paper. We would rather tell you early that something needs rethinking than discover it late.
How it works
It begins with a conversation. Tell us what you have in mind, the space it is for, the scheme it sits within, any references or sketches you are working from. The more we understand the project, the better the first proposal will be.
From there we develop the design with you: form, materials, finish, scale, and how the piece is lit. We will be clear about what is straightforward, what is more involved, and what it means for cost and lead time, before anything is committed.
When the design is right, it is made. We keep you informed through production, and the finished piece arrives ready to install.
Begin a commission
To start a conversation, write to us at studio@caspen.co.uk with a few words about the project and the space it is for. Attach anything that helps, references, sketches, photographs of the room. We will come back to you to take it from there.
