Sinua 686/AP Wall Light

Sinua 686/AP is a disc of satin glass held off the wall by a single upright blade of light gold metal. The disc is 24cm across, and the blade runs down its face and curves back to the wall, so from the side the glass seems to float a few centimetres proud of the surface.

The LED sits behind the glass, which spreads it into an even, soft-edged circle of light with a bright core, while the light gold blade picks up a glint along its edge. The integrated 9W module gives 1,100 lumens at a colour rendering above 90, a generous output for a wall light this size.

Sinua is the work of Steven Haulenbeek, an American artist and designer based in Chicago. He trained in drawing and sculpture and studied designed objects at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, founded his own studio in 2010 with an emphasis on unusual materials and process-led objects, and was named by The New York Times in 2015 among America's most exciting emerging designers.

Sinua is a mirror light first. Mount a pair either side of a bathroom or dressing-room mirror with the centres at about eye height, 160cm to 170cm from the floor, and the satin glass lights the face evenly from both sides. It also works flanking a bed head, in a corridor or beside a doorway. It is rated IP20, so in a bathroom it belongs outside the zones around the bath and shower. Italamp also makes Sinua in smoked glass and in white, chrome and iron grey metal.

The module is supplied non-dimmable; TRIAC, 1-10V, DALI, push and Casambi versions are available.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting in Italy since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
