Aurora 796/AP Wall Light

The Aurora wall light is the collection in its smallest form. A sphere of brushed light gold sits against the wall, and from it a baby blue metal dish, tilted at an angle, half-covers a globe of white glass. The dish shades one side, so light falls forward and across the wall, and the gold sphere picks up a highlight from the globe beside it.

Italamp describes Aurora as an eclectic collection with a retro allure: its name refers to the light that fills the sky just before sunrise, and its colours recall the painted machinery of early Italian industry. It was designed by Virginia Cei, born in Pisa in 1992, whose first product for Italamp in 2021 was selected the following year for 'Ten Women Designers', the travelling exhibition organised by the Fondazione Pio Manzù.

At 26cm wide and 21cm tall, projecting 31cm from the wall, it is sized for a bedroom or a corridor. A pair either side of a bed frees the bedside tables and puts the light at the right height to read by; fixed with the globe about 1.2 to 1.4m above the floor, it lights a pillow without glare. It also works flanking a mirror, or repeated along a corridor at 2.5 to 3m centres. A single 6W E14 LED bulb gives a soft light through the white glass, and TRIAC dimming is included, so it works with a standard phase-cut dimmer. Casambi is available on request.

Baby blue is the coolest of Aurora's five colours, a soft, chalky blue that sits well with white linen, oak and pale plaster. The same wall light is made in ancient white, yellow sunrise, baby pink and cappuccino, and the family includes matching pendants and lamps.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
