Aurora 796/SG Pendant

Aurora SG hangs a painted metal half-shell, angled open like a visor, around a globe of white glass, with a sphere of brushed light gold at its crown and a slim painted rod above. Seen from one side it is a coloured dome; from the other, an open white light.

Virginia Cei, born in Pisa in 1992, designed her first piece for Italamp in 2021, and her work for the company was chosen in 2022 for the touring exhibition Dieci Donne Designer, organised by the Fondazione Pio Manzù. Aurora is her collection of colour. Italamp says the name alludes to the light that takes over the sky just before sunrise, and that the finishes recall the colours of early Italian industry: ancient white, yellow sunrise, baby blue, baby pink and cappuccino, each paired with the brushed gold sphere.

In the room, the SG is the larger Aurora pendant, 35cm wide and 30cm deep, with an overall height of 120cm on its steel rod (Italamp lists a maximum of 140cm). Because the height is set by the rod, it is specified to the ceiling: in a room of 2.4 to 2.6m the globe hangs roughly 1.2 to 1.4m from the floor, about head height for someone sitting up in bed, and Italamp shows it hung beside a bed in place of a lamp. Over a small dining or kitchen table, two side by side work well. It takes one 14W E27 LED lamp, diffused by the white glass, and TRIAC dimming is included as standard. This page offers baby blue and baby pink; the other three colours, and the smaller 796/SP pendant, complete the set.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has designed and made lighting since 1975 from its base at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
