Aurora 796/P Floor Lamp

Aurora 796/P is a 145cm floor lamp built from simple geometry: a coloured metal column, a sphere in brushed light gold, and above it a tilted metal half-shell that frames a white glass globe. The shell shades the globe on one side and leaves it open on the other, so the lamp has a front and a back.

Italamp describes Aurora as an eclectic, colourful collection with a retro allure. The name refers to the light that fills the sky just before sunrise, and the colours recall the painted finishes of early Italian industry. The column and shell come in five of those colours: ancient white, yellow sunrise, baby blue, baby pink and cappuccino, each with the brushed light gold sphere.

Aurora is designed by Virginia Cei, born in Pisa in 1992. Her first product for Italamp, in 2021, was selected in 2022 for the travelling exhibition 'Ten Women Designers' organised by the Pio Manzù Foundation.

At 145cm, the globe sits above the head of someone seated beside it, so Aurora belongs beside an armchair or the end of a sofa, or in the corner of a bedroom. It takes up a 35cm by 30cm footprint and weighs 15kg, so it stands steadily without a wide base. A single 14W E27 LED lamp lights the white glass, a soft background light rather than a task light. TRIAC dimming is included, so it can sit on a standard dimmer socket; Casambi control is available. The same colours run through the Aurora table, wall, ceiling and pendant versions, so a scheme can repeat one finish from room to room.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting in Italy since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
