Halo 748/S100 Pendant

Halo is a ring of glass panels hung in a broken rhythm. Rectangles of micro-ribbed satin glass, some white and some teak, overlap around a 105cm circle on a satin bronze frame, stepping up and down so that the edge never settles into a single line. Inside, opal methacrylate diffusers carry a 132W LED module, and the ribbed glass softens the output, so the ring gives a great deal of light without glare.

Halo was designed by Stefano Traverso, who was born in Genoa in 1973, trained in industrial design at the Scuola Italiana Design in Padua and has taught there since 2001. It comes in two colourways: satin bronze with satin white and teak glass, the warmer of the two and at home with timber and stone; or matte midnight grey with satin white and smoked glass, for a cooler scheme.

The S100 is the middle of three sizes, and it is a lot of light: 14,200 lumens, enough to be the main source in a large living room or over a dining table of 200 to 240cm. DALI dimming, available on request, is worth specifying so it can come down for the evening. The drop adjusts from 10 to 100cm, which puts the fixture 42 to 132cm below the ceiling; over a table, with the lower edge about 75cm above the top, it suits ceilings up to about 2.8m. In a double-height living room it can hang at full drop as the centre of the space. It weighs 34kg.

For a smaller room the 80cm Halo gives 11,000 lumens; for a large hall the 130cm gives 18,000.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
