Muna 4030/SG Pendant

Muna is a moon in glass. Inside, a sphere of white glass fused with crystal gives a porous, strongly textured surface, which Italamp says is inspired by the surface of the moon. Around it, a tall cover of ribbed borosilicate glass, shaded in gold, dove or smoke grey, frames the sphere and leaves it open to view from below. Italamp introduced the shaded gold cover after the original shaded midnight blue, describing it as recalling a starry night.

Muna was designed by Danilo De Rossi, an architect and designer who has worked in Venice since the 1980s, led the creative direction of Leucos from 1996 to 2015 and has been Italamp's art director since 2016. The SG is the larger of the two Muna pendants, 30cm across and 55cm tall, on a light gold frame.

Muna works singly over a bedside table, a small round table or a reading chair, and in runs of two or three over a kitchen island or a narrow dining table, spaced about 70 to 90cm apart. The drop adjusts from 10 to 100cm, so the glass hangs 65 to 155cm below the ceiling; over an island, with the lower edge about 75cm above the worktop, that suits ceilings up to about 3.2m. A 15.5W LED module gives 2,000 lumens at a colour rendering over 90, and the light comes mostly downward through the open base, with the textured sphere glowing above it. Dimming is not included; TRIAC, DALI or Casambi is available on request.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
