Pulsa 439/8+8 Chandelier

Pulsa 439/8+8 is the fullest of Danilo De Rossi's round Pulsa chandeliers: two groups of eight pieces of fluted, curved blown glass in dove, gathered around an iron grey centre. Some of the glass rises in long open shades and some turns back on itself in loops, so the outline changes as you walk round it. It is 98cm across and 70cm tall.

Italamp describes the collection as recovering the dexterity of the classic glassworks with a modern interpretation, and the fluting is where you see it: the ribs run the length of each shade and pick up the light along their ridges. De Rossi has practised as an architect and designer in Venice since the 1980s, led the creative direction of Leucos from 1996 to 2015 and has been Italamp's art director since 2016.

This is a piece that needs space around it: a dining table of about 180 to 220cm, a double-height hall or a stair void. The drop adjusts from 10 to 100cm, so the chandelier hangs 80 to 170cm below the ceiling; with the lower edge about 75cm above a table, that suits ceilings of roughly 2.3 to 3.2m, and in a stairwell it can hang at full drop. A 34W LED module gives 5,700 lumens through the dove glass. Dimming is not included, but TRIAC, 1-10V, DALI, push and Casambi control are all available on request. It weighs 24kg, so plan a fixing into a joist.

The 6+6 has the same 98cm diameter with fewer pieces of glass, for a lighter outline. For a tall, narrow space, the vertical S10 and S15 hang the same glass in a cascade.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
