Aurora 796/PL Ceiling Light

Aurora 796/PL is the small Aurora ceiling light: a brushed light gold sphere fixed to the ceiling, a tilted metal half-shell beneath it in baby blue or cappuccino, and a white glass globe held inside the shell. The shell covers the globe on one side and opens it on the other, so the fitting has a front and directs its light.

Italamp describes Aurora as an eclectic, colourful collection with a retro allure. The name refers to the light that fills the sky just before sunrise, and the colours recall the painted finishes of early Italian industry. Baby blue is the cooler of the two colours offered here, cappuccino the warmer and more neutral.

Aurora is designed by Virginia Cei, born in Pisa in 1992. Her first product for Italamp, in 2021, was selected in 2022 for the travelling exhibition 'Ten Women Designers' organised by the Pio Manzù Foundation.

At 26cm wide, 21cm deep and 31cm from the ceiling, the PL is for the smaller spaces that rarely get a considered light: a cloakroom, a landing, a walk-in wardrobe, a low hall or a child's bedroom. On a 2.4m ceiling it leaves just over 2m beneath. When fixing, face the open side of the shell into the room. In a corridor, a row every 1.5m to 2m gives an even, decorative line of light, and the larger 796/PLG suits a bigger room in the same scheme. A 6W E14 LED lamp lights the white glass; TRIAC dimming is included, and Casambi control is available.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting in Italy since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
