Aurora 796/SP Pendant

The Aurora pendant hangs a small composition from a slim rod: a sphere of brushed light gold, and beneath it a coloured metal dish, tilted at an angle, half-covering a globe of white glass. The dish shades one side of the bulb, so the light falls forward and down, and the gold sphere catches it from above.

Italamp describes Aurora as an eclectic collection with a retro allure: its name refers to the light that fills the sky just before sunrise, and its colours recall the painted machinery of early Italian industry. It was designed by Virginia Cei, born in Pisa in 1992, whose first product for Italamp in 2021 was selected the following year for 'Ten Women Designers', the travelling exhibition organised by the Fondazione Pio Manzù.

At 26cm wide and 120cm overall, the SP is the smaller Aurora pendant, sized for a bedside, where a pair can replace table lamps and free the surface, or for a run of three over a kitchen counter or a narrow table. It hangs on a steel rod rather than a cable, which keeps it perfectly still and vertical; the overall height can be set up to 150cm, so over a bedside table, with the globe about 50 to 60cm above the top, it suits ceilings of roughly 2.4 to 2.7m. A single 6W E14 LED bulb gives a soft light through the white glass, and TRIAC dimming is included, so it works with a standard phase-cut dimmer. Casambi is available on request.

Ancient white is the quietest colour and suits a pale room; cappuccino is a warm mid-brown that sits well with timber and linen. Italamp also makes the SP in yellow sunrise, baby blue and baby pink, and the family runs to a larger pendant, table and floor lamps and wall lights.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
