Charles 724/80 Chandelier

Charles 724/80 is a round chandelier of three stepped tiers. Each tier is a gold nickel ring hung with a close fringe of etched crystal pendants, and inside them sits a satin methacrylate diffuser that hides the light source. The chandelier hangs on a steel rod finished in dark brown leather.

The arrangement is what makes the light work. A 63W LED module sits behind the satin diffuser, so the etched crystal is lit from within and glows evenly rather than throwing hard points of sparkle. It gives 7,400 lumens with a colour rendering above 90, enough to light a dining room on its own.

Italamp Studio, the company's in-house team, designed Charles as a family: rounds of 60, 80, 100 and 120cm, a 110cm rectangle and a wall light. The leather rod is the detail that sets it apart from a traditional tiered crystal chandelier.

In the room, 80cm is the size for a round table of 120cm to 160cm, a square table for six or a bedroom of 4m or more. The body is 30cm deep on a fixed 45cm rod, so on a 2.4m ceiling the lowest tier ends around 90cm above a 75cm table, which is the right height for dining. In a larger room or over a longer table, the 100cm and 120cm rounds keep the same proportions. The 724/AP wall light uses the same etched crystal and gold nickel, so a pair either side of a sideboard or fireplace carries the scheme to the walls.

The LED module is supplied non-dimmable. TRIAC, 1-10V, DALI and Casambi versions are available, so Charles can sit on a domestic dimmer or a full control system.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting in Italy since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
