Trilliane takes the tiered basket outline of an Empire chandelier and sets its inverted pendeloques so close that it reads as one body of crystal. Sterling has hand-formed crystal arms, pendants, columns, dishes and a crystal ball finial. Olde World is the nineteenth-century tiered form, at 23 lights, and Bagatelle redraws the hanging lantern with a fall of crystal.

Caesar is Multiforme's version of the Ca' Rezzonico style in blown art glass, running to 21 lights. Kia Ora takes the same flat, spreading form and fills it with colour. Simplicissimus 360 is the plain Venetian chandelier, with no flowers, leaves or crests, and Rosae Rosarum is a classical chandelier covered in glass roses.

A traditional chandelier has a recognisable anatomy: a central column, arms, and a dressing of crystal or glass. Two lines are represented here. Schonbek, founded in Bohemia in 1870, works in cut crystal on the European pattern. Multiforme, based at Trebaseleghe in the Veneto, works in blown art glass on Venetian forms.

These pieces suit rooms with cornices and panelling, and they also hold their own against plain plaster. Allow for the spread of the arms as much as the height, and in a period house check the ceiling fixing and the weight before you order: lighting a listed house covers the questions to ask.
