Buying Murano glass lighting in the UK

Italamp, at Cadoneghe near Padua, makes Carmen 729/90, a 90cm ring of Murano glass quadrihedrons in teak and transparent at £10,975, and Carmen 719/120, a line of glass 120cm long at £2,420. Nube pairs a Murano glass exterior with a column of hand-carved crystal.

Masiero, at Casale sul Sile, makes Bōzu with a globe of opaline white Murano triplex glass, three layers cased together. The table lamp and wall light use the same globe from £490.

For wider Venetian and Italian glass, see glass chandeliers and Blown Glass. Makers there describe their glass in their own words.

'Murano' is used loosely in lighting, and not every piece sold under the word was made on the island. This page is deliberately short. A piece appears here only where its maker states in its own specification that the glass is Murano glass, and Caspen does not use the word on the strength of a family resemblance.

If provenance matters to the purchase, ask to have it in writing, naming the furnace if the maker will. Our piece on naming the furnace sets out what to ask. The Murano Glass Mark is a separate certification, and it is the maker who can tell you whether a piece carries it.
