Almost Nothing

A bar, a line, one sphere of marble. Pieces with everything taken out but the light.

Reduction is harder than it looks, because nothing is left to hide a poor joint or a badly chosen lamp. Regolo Maxi is a single bar of light, 180cm long, with one sphere of marble threaded onto its suspension. Carmen 719/120 is one line of glass, 120cm long and 3cm deep.

Serica by Marco Zito is a line of light Ø2.5cm across, with a small sphere and dome at the top. Tobia reduces the chandelier to its structure, and Sinua is a disc of satin glass held off the wall on one blade of metal.

With a fitting this spare, the cable, the canopy and the plaster around it all become part of the piece. Settle their positions before the ceiling is finished: the decisions that come before the plaster explains why. For the opposite view, see More Is More.
