Giudecca Chandelier

Multiforme conceived Giudecca as a ready-made answer for large venues, and the numbers bear that out: Ø140cm, up to 195cm tall and up to 18 lights. The forms are Venetian, thickly worked. A crest of flowers and long serrated leaves rises above the lamps, each lamp stands in a cup quilted with a diamond pattern, and small pendants hang in strings between the arms.

Black changes the piece most. It has no transparency, so the chandelier reads first as a silhouette, and the ribs and the diamond pattern appear only where they catch a highlight. It needs a pale ceiling or a lit wall behind it. Rosso Murano, a deep red on the maker's chart, does the opposite: with the lamps on, the glass itself seems to glow, which is a great deal of colour for one room. Rosso Corsa is the second red. Clear shows how much ribbing and leaf work there is, and picks up the colour of the frame. Gold, White, and Clear and gold are also offered.

The 12-light is 145cm tall with a drop of 160 to 210cm, so people can walk beneath it with a ceiling of 3.7m. The 18-light adds a tier and needs 4.2m. Over a long table, allow 3.1m and 3.6m. The maker's own room shot hangs the black version in a dark-panelled entrance hall, above a block of red seating that keeps people out from under it. They weigh 40kg and 60kg, so the fixing point should be checked before ordering.
