Bonbon Chandelier

Bonbon starts from the Ca' Rezzonico chandelier, with its looping arms, flowers and long glass leaves, and then frosts every surface. The full Rezzonico outline stays, but the glitter goes: the glass turns matt and velvety, and the colour looks soaked into it. The 20-light version holds more than 400 separate glass elements, by the maker's count.

There is one colour scheme, polychrome, drawn from a palette of twelve colours, and one frame, polished nickel. Yellow, pink and blue flowers sit against pale stems, the leaves are edged in blue, and the central bowl carries small blue dots. With nothing to choose on colour, the decision is size. Each light is a 6W LED, so the 6-light draws 36W and the 20-light 120W in all.

The 6-light, at Ø100cm and 120cm tall, is the one for a dining room with a generous ceiling. Its shortest drop is 135cm, so hanging 75cm above a table it needs about 2.85m, or about 3.45m if people will walk beneath it. The 8-light, at Ø120cm, needs 3.6m to walk under. The two larger versions stack tiers at the same Ø120cm: the 14-light needs about 4m, and the 20-light, 250cm tall, about 4.75m, which makes it a piece for a stairwell or a double-height hall. They weigh 70kg and 100kg, so have the fixing point checked before ordering.
