Kia Ora Chandelier

Kia Ora takes the form of a Rezzonico chandelier, with its flat, spreading structure and open arms, and fills it with colour. Clear blown glass is trimmed in ruby and light blue, then hung with flowers and small bells in polychrome glass paste. The maker describes the collection as traditional Venetian shapes combined with bright colours and exuberant floral details, and it is the least restrained piece in this range.

Look closely at the photographs. Each flower is separately formed, in yellow, orange, red, green and blue, and they sit on curling glass stems among the arms. Clear, ruby and polychrome is the full version. Clear and polychrome drops the ruby in favour of a blue trim. For a client who wants the form without the colour, there is plain clear, or clear with gold.

This needs a room with height and plain walls. The 5-light, at Ø70cm and 60cm high, is the way into the collection, for a dining room with an ordinary ceiling. The 12-light at Ø100cm is tall at 115cm, while the other 12-light at Ø120cm is broad and flat at 100cm, which suits a lower room. The 9-light is widest for its height at Ø125cm. The 24-light is Ø165cm, 175cm high and 90kg, with an overall drop of 190 to 290cm, and needs a double-height hall or a hotel lobby and a structural fixing. All of them travel in parts, so plan for assembly on site.
