Bōzu is built from plain solids: a globe of opaline white Murano glass and a metal cone, stacked one on the other like a small totem. The glass is triplex, three layers cased together, which is why it glows evenly with no visible hot spot. The metal is galvanised and painted matt black with a band of brushed pure gold, or finished in brushed pure gold all over.
The design is by Signorotto + Partners, and Masiero describes it as a meeting of minimalism and function, plain geometric forms set against contrasting materials. It was shown as one of Masiero's new collections at Milan Design Week in April 2025, in the company's then newly opened showroom in Via Statuto, in Milan's Brera district. Masiero has made lighting at Casale sul Sile, near Treviso, since 1981, and makes each piece through the full cycle, from the metalwork up, in its own workshops.
In the pendants each module lights both ways: one LED lights the globe and a second, below it, throws light down onto the table. The linear and oval versions hang their globes from a black bar carried on a strap of brown leather, which softens the geometry.
In the room
The S3 LN, 160cm long, is made for a kitchen island or a dining table of 200 to 240cm. The oval S6 OV, 120 by 72cm, suits a table for six to eight, and the S8 OV, 168 by 72cm, one for ten or more, with the globes ringing the table. A single S1 at Ø14cm works over a bedside, a bar or in a row along a counter, and the round canopy compositions of three, five or seven globes drop up to 160cm, enough to fall through a stairwell in a loose cluster. Matt black with gold reads crisply against timber panelling and pale plaster; all-over brushed gold is warmer and more decorative.
