Murano Bulb Chandelier

Marcantonio took the shape of an ordinary light bulb and handed it to a glassmaker. Murano Bulb, the name of the model, is a clear blown body the size of a domestic lamp, dressed in coloured glass frills. Each bulb is blown glass, worked in one of two techniques the maker names, balloton or rigamenà, which give the body its fine spiral. Around that body go hand-applied collars and frills in coloured glass, finished at the base with a flower, a flame or small glass berries.

The chandelier suspends these bulbs from a spidery structure in brushed gold, on fine arms that spread far wider than the lamps themselves. It is mostly air. The 6-light covers about 130 by 100cm and weighs only 5kg, so a large area of ceiling is occupied without any visual mass, and each bulb can be read individually. There are twelve designs in the series, and the bulbs in one fitting vary, which is the appeal.

Over a dining table the 6-light suits a table of about 180 to 220cm, and the 12-light, at about 180 by 140cm, a long table or a hotel lounge. The 3-light, at about 60 by 70cm, is enough for a round table or a small hall. The drop runs from 40 to 100cm.
