Trilliane 76cm Chandelier

Broad at the base and only 69cm tall on a 76cm width, the Trilliane 76cm Chandelier sets four crowns of pendeloques above a wide skirt. A shallow inverted cone of crystal finishes it, ending in a single ball. It is the 61cm Tiered Chandelier at the next size up, and the extra spread makes the outline much flatter at the base.

At 29kg it weighs almost the same as the 84cm Chandelier, which has 23 more lamps and is 8cm wider and 20cm taller. Here the body is large cut pieces packed from crown to foot, in place of the fine strands of the basket forms. Each is pinned by hand, and the pendeloques stand upside down, as they do on every Trilliane, around each tier.

Schonbek describes Radiance as its finest crystal in cut, colour and clarity. The grade is engineered for optical purity with close to three times the jewel-cut facets of mass-produced crystal. Thirty lamps sit within the body, 25 B35 and five P45. The house goes back to Bohemia and Adolph Schonbek in 1870. The frame here is laser cut, then welded and hand-finished.

In the room

Think of it for a room of about 6.5m square, a large open-plan living space, or a dining table of 125 to 150cm round. Because the height is modest, it fits lower rooms than its width suggests. Over the table, the foot 80cm above the top puts the crown at 2.24m, which leaves 16cm of chain at 2.4m and 46cm at 2.7m. A hall needs 2.8m for 2.1m clear beneath it.

The skirt is the feature to design around. It is at its widest low on the body, so it is seen well from beneath and across a room, and less so from a landing above. Up to 320cm of chain is available, reaching 389cm in all, enough for a ceiling of about 6m. The fixing must take 29kg, and the crystal is hung at site from Schonbek's trim diagram.
