Charis Table Lamp

Three forms of one idea, each 65cm tall and only Ø15cm across: a slim column of opaque glass on a metal foot, clear glass stacked above it, and a metal ring at the very top. Marta Naddeo designed them for the Charis collection, and the contrast between the solid colour below and the worked clear glass above is what the lamp is about.

Multiforme gives each form a name. Aglaia (Form A) has a column that narrows and steps out again, topped by a clear capsule in rigato, the ribbed technique the maker calls traditionally Venetian. Eufrosine (Form E) is a long straight taper carrying a flattened disc of textured clear glass and a white sphere marked with rows of small bubbles. Talia (Form T) has a rounded column, an ellipse of ribbed clear glass with a zigzag metal rod through it, and a small milk-white sphere. The chart offers Sandalo tan, Sabbia cream, Neve white, Rugiada pale blue and Bruma pale grey.

There is no shade. The 20W LED sits inside the glass, so the column glows and gives a low light to the surface around it, and it will not serve for reading. Its value is height on a narrow footprint. On a 75cm console the ring sits at 1.4m, and the base fits a shelf or a mantel that could not take a shaded lamp. The maker photographs the three together in different colours, which is the way to use them along a sideboard. The metal comes in polished or brushed nickel, or polished or brushed gold.
