Teo 2392/140 Ceiling Light

Teo is a ceiling light built like a flower. A large semicircular diffuser of blown satin glass sits at its centre, and around it smaller glass spheres gather on a shiny gold metal structure, the 'petals' of the piece in Italamp's own description. At 140cm across and 27cm deep, this is the largest Teo, and it gives a ceiling the weight of a chandelier without any drop at all.

Teo was designed by Italamp Studio, the company's in-house team, and shares its 2392 family number with the Tea floor lamp and its frosted glass spheres. Twenty-eight 3W G9 LED bulbs sit behind the glass, so the satin surface reads as one soft field of light rather than a scatter of points. TRIAC dimming is included, which means it works with a conventional phase-cut dimmer, and Casambi wireless control is available on request.

It belongs in the room that wants a centrepiece but cannot take a hanging one: a drawing room or principal bedroom with a ceiling of 2.4 to 2.7m, or a dining room where a pendant would interrupt the view across the table. At 140cm it needs a generous room, roughly 6m across or more; for a room nearer 4m, the 95cm Teo is the better scale. Because the light comes from 28 sources spread across the whole piece, the room is lit evenly rather than from a single hot spot.

Teo weighs 61kg, so it needs a fixing into a joist or a structural ceiling, which is worth agreeing with the electrician before the ceiling is finished.
