Vanity Chandelier

Vanity is covered from rim to tip. Glass strips, long drops, handmade pendants, lead crystals and cut crystals hang in tiers from a plain metal ring, stepping inwards until the whole thing narrows almost to a point. The maker's description is exact: a neutral structure that disappears above the decoration. With the frame hidden, what you see is strands, and the G9 lamps inside show only as bright spots breaking through them.

The crystal is clear in every version, and the choice is in the glass around it. Clear keeps the piece cold and white. Smoke adds darker strips and drops, which give the cascade more depth against a pale ceiling. The ring comes in polished or brushed nickel and polished or brushed gold. The metal is a thin line, but the crystal reflects it, and the photographs of the gold frame show the strands taking on yellow. Dark walls suit this piece: the maker's panelled black room shows far more of the detail than its white one.

Most rooms will start with the ceiling-fix, Ø90cm and 85cm tall, which leaves 1.55m in a 2.4m room, 80cm above a table top, and needs 2.95m to walk beneath. The hanging sizes want more height. Allowing 2.1m clear, a walk-through needs 3.1m for the Ø60cm, 3.5m for the Ø80cm, 3.6m for the Ø100cm and 3.8m for the Ø120cm. The Ø60cm will hang 75cm above a table from a 2.5m ceiling. The Ø120cm weighs 70kg, so check the fixing first.
