V-Classic 800 Floor Lamp

At 195cm, this is a V-Classic head carried on a long, thin stem. Five crowned cups surround a central bowl with flowers and toothed leaves, all compressed into Ø60cm. Below that, a slim column of blown glass runs almost uninterrupted to the floor, broken only by a few knops, and ends in a dome of moulded glass with a ruffled collar on a wide glass disc. Most of its height is empty air, so the piece has far less visual weight than its size would suggest.

It is photographed in clear and gold, with gold running through the leaves and the bell pendants, and that combination suits the proportions, since the stem stays clear and the colour gathers at the head. Graphite and clear gives a darker line against a pale wall, and white turns the column into a solid stroke. Gold glass and the acacia, celeste, ametista and primavera trims are also offered.

The cups sit at roughly standing eye level, so the lamps are seen directly and it will not serve as a reading lamp. Use it where a pendant is not possible, or where a ceiling cannot take a chandelier's fixing: in a corner, beside a tall window, or as a pair framing a doorway. Keep clear of through routes, because the arms reach 30cm out from the stem at head height. It weighs 20kg, with all of that glass on a base, so set it on a level floor.
