Stimma Chandelier

Stimma, by Debonademeo for Multiforme, is a chandelier of straight tubes of coloured blown glass radiating from a metal hub, each ending in a white globe half covered by a polished metal dome. The maker describes it as the moment when glass, metal and light come together, and compares it to the impulse of a spring bloom.

The arms are the point: long tubes of coloured glass meeting at polished metal joints, with the domes reflecting them back. Peacock Blue with chrome is the version the maker leads with, cool and exact. Ambra with polished gold is warmer and reads almost as a mid-century piece, as the photographs here show. Marino, Ametista, Tangerine and Clear are also available.

All three sizes need space around them, since the arms reach in every direction. The 8-light and the compact 12-light both measure Ø100cm and have an overall drop of 75 to 100cm, which suits a dining table of about 200cm or a sitting room with a ceiling of 2.7m or more. The Ø150cm 12-light drops 110 to 150cm and belongs in a double-height room, a stairwell or a hotel lounge, where it can be seen from below and from the side. It weighs 34kg.
