Murano Bulb Pendant Group

Three or five of Marcantonio's glass bulbs hung together from one brushed gold canopy, at staggered heights. Each is a clear blown body with the outline of a domestic light bulb, finished by hand in coloured glass. Each bulb is blown glass, worked in one of two techniques the maker names, balloton or rigamenà, which give the body its fine spiral. Around that body go hand-applied collars and frills in coloured glass, finished at the base with a flower, a flame or small glass berries.

Grouped this tightly, the colours read together, so the piece has more presence than its size suggests. The 3-light gathers into about Ø30cm and the 5-light into Ø40cm, on an overall drop of 50 to 150cm. The bulbs in each group are assorted from the series of twelve, and small differences between them are part of hand-made work.

The 3-light suits a kitchen island in a pair, or a stair landing where the long drop can be used. Over a dining table for four, the 5-light is enough on its own, hung about 75cm above the table top. Each bulb takes an E27 lamp, and the fitting weighs no more than 4kg, so there is no need for special fixing.
