Murano Bulb Flush Light

The most compact of Marcantonio's glass bulbs: a brushed gold base fixed to the ceiling, with the blown glass hanging directly beneath it. Each bulb is blown glass, worked in one of two techniques the maker names, balloton or rigamenà, which give the body its fine spiral. Around that body go hand-applied collars and frills in coloured glass, finished at the base with a flower, a flame or small glass berries. Twelve numbered designs are available in the swatches above.

It measures 15cm across and 30cm from the ceiling, and weighs 1kg. That makes it the version for a low room, where a pendant would be in the way. The glass stays visible from below, so the flower or flame at the base is the part you see first as you walk beneath it.

Good places are a cloakroom, a small landing or a run along a corridor, with a different design every metre or so. It takes one E27 lamp, and a warm, low-output lamp will keep the colour readable.

Multiforme is a manufactory of art glass lighting based at Trebaseleghe, in the Veneto.
