Iris Chandelier

Iris is a chandelier built around one flower. Glass irises in several sizes are spread through the whole piece, and the maker's glassmakers form each petal so that the fine ribbing of the real flower shows in the glass. The largest blooms hang open-faced around the lamps, acting as shades, so the light comes through the petals and shows the ribs.

The six colourways change the character completely. Clear, gold and rose has pink petals, deepening at the edges, on clear arms flecked with gold. Black and gold is the most graphic, with black glass arms and amber flowers, and suits a dark room. Clear, gold and white is the most formal. Clear and polychrome is the loudest, with irises in red, yellow, violet and blue on pale green-tinted stems. Clear, amber and yellow and Straw, gold and white are the warmer pair.

For a dining table for six to eight, the 6-light at Ø90cm is the natural size, either 75cm high or, with the crest, 100cm. The drop is 90 to 140cm on the first and 115 to 165cm on the second, so the crested version wants a ceiling of about 2.8m or more. The 5-light at Ø75cm suits a smaller room or a bedroom. The 12-light packs twice the lights into Ø75cm, with G9 lamps, and is a much denser and more colourful object, for a piece that will be looked at closely. They weigh 9 to 20kg and arrive in parts.
