Iris Ceiling Light

Iris is a chandelier built around one flower. Glass irises in several sizes are spread through the whole piece, and the maker's glassmakers form each petal so that the fine ribbing of the real flower shows in the glass. The ceiling version gathers eight lights and the flowers into a shallow mass close to the ceiling, 95cm across and 65cm deep.

This shape solves a real problem. Most glass flower chandeliers need height, and this one brings the same work to a room with an ordinary ceiling. The maker shows it in clear, amber and yellow, where each petal carries a streak of amber through a strong yellow. At 2.4m it leaves 1.75m below it, so it belongs above a table or a bed rather than in a walkway.

It weighs 25kg, so the ceiling fixing should be checked. Over a bed, it gives a low room a real centre, and it holds a small dining room equally well. The six colourways are the same as the Iris chandelier, so the two can be used in adjoining rooms.

Multiforme is a manufactory of art glass lighting based at Trebaseleghe, in the Veneto.
