Desafinado Cluster

The Cluster takes the same hand-dented glass spheres as the Desafinado cascade and gathers them under a flat ceiling plate, so the composition reads as a broad cloud instead of a column. The plate comes square, oval or rectangular, and the spheres hang on thin cables at different lengths beneath it.

The surfaces are what hold the eye: frosted glass, mirrored glass and pulegoso, which is glass full of small trapped bubbles, sit side by side in one fitting. The nine mixes are the maker's own: Sicilian Summer, The Gobi Desert, The Alps, Sunset in Oslo, Roman Holiday, Blooming of Provence, Winter in the Azores, The Shunan Forest and Dawn of Marrakech. For a kitchen or a pale scheme, The Alps and The Shunan Forest bring real colour, while Winter in the Azores keeps to smoke, frost and silver.

The rectangular and oval plates are made for long tables. The 160cm rectangular plate suits a table of about 220 to 260cm, and the 200cm plate a table of 280cm or more, or a kitchen island. At 55cm tall, the 160cm version works under a 2.4m ceiling, leaving about 1.85m beneath it, which is fine over a table but too low to walk under. The 200cm version is 100cm tall and needs a higher room. The square plates, 55cm and 100cm, belong over a round or square table. The largest weighs 60kg, so check the fixing point before ordering.
