Dancer Single Pendant

Reduced to one column, the Dancer fringe becomes a small lantern: Ø15cm and 40cm tall, weighing 3kg. A polished rim holds a ring of rippled glass strips around a single G9 lamp, and long tapered drops hang beneath on a line of small faceted pendants. Lit, the strips go translucent and the lamp shows through as a soft bright patch. The drops stay dark.

The maker hangs four of them in a line, in Smoke glass with a polished gold frame, and that is the strongest way to use it. The gold warms the Smoke, so the strips read as a pale champagne and the drops as a dark bronze. Polished nickel is cooler, while brushed gold and burnished brass are the softer options. Tangerine and Frosted are the other glasses. Gold glass completes the range, but not with nickel.

The drop runs from 60 to 140cm. At the long end, in a 2.4m room, the base of the glass sits 1m from the floor, which is right for a bedside. Three or four make a row over a kitchen island, where a 90cm worktop and 75cm of clearance call for a drop of 75cm. Each has its own ceiling cup, so a row means a separate fixing and feed for each one. It does not suit a walkway under a low ceiling: even at 60cm, you need 2.7m overhead to pass beneath with 2.1m clear.
