Buying Terzani in the UK

Caspen carries 35 Terzani pieces, from the Argent Mon Bijou portable lamp at £380 to Dragon at up to £78,980, with each configuration and finish priced on its page.

Atlantis by Barlas Baylar drapes fine brass chain over polished bands, in nine standard forms from a wall sconce to a 2.5 metre linear chandelier. Dragon by Dodo Arslan is brass cast at a historic foundry in Tuscany, and every one is numbered. Mizu by Nicolas Terzani hangs crystal drops shaped by hand, and Argent sets hand-shaped discs into a cloud of metal.

For a stairwell or double-height hall, start with Atlantis, where custom drops are arranged through the studio, or Soscik. For a long table, I Lucci Argentati runs from 145cm to 265cm, and the LEDs in Gaia wash down onto the table from the joints between its plates.

By designer: Dodo Arslan, Christian Lava and Nicolas Terzani.

Terzani has made lighting in Tuscany since 1972, when Sergio Terzani turned his father Orlando's wrought-iron craft towards a new purpose. The early work combined hand-worked metal with carved wood and Murano glass, the three materials of Italian decorative tradition, and the company grew from a workshop into a design house without ever leaving the bench behind.

Its turn towards design came through the French designer Jean-François Crochet, whose Antinea and Phantom pieces from the 1980s and 90s are now collected as objects in their own right.

What marks a Terzani piece is movement: light caught in falling metal and cascading chain, forms that read as sculpture before they read as fixtures.
