Argent Chandelier

Argent is a cloud made from metal. Every disc is shaped by hand by Terzani's craftsmen and set into the cluster at its own angle, so when the light comes on each disc returns a small, separate reflection and the ceiling and walls around it are scattered with points of light.

Italian designer Dodo Arslan conceived Argent for Terzani as a shimmering cloud, and more than a decade on it is the piece the house chose to build a whole new collection around. The chandelier forms take the idea to architectural scale. The large chandelier is a 160cm column of light hung from a single canopy, made for the void of a stairwell or a double-height hall. The linear pendants carry four or six clusters along one canopy, so the cloud stretches the length of a dining table.

Argent is at its best where the light has room to travel. Over a dining table the reflections run across the cloth and up the walls; in a hall or a hotel lobby the piece reads as sculpture from the door and as light once you stand beneath it. Stainless steel gives the brightest, coolest sparkle. Gold and champagne warm the room, and sunset rose lends the light a soft blush.

As a guide to scale, the Ø60cm small chandelier suits a round table for four to six, a bedroom or a dressing room. The Ø70cm medium chandelier holds a larger round table or an entrance hall. The large chandelier needs height, with an overall drop of 175cm to 250cm, so it belongs in a stairwell, a double-height space or a lobby. Over a long table, the 125cm four-cluster linear pendant suits a table of around 2m, and the 185cm six-cluster version a table of 2.6m or more. The Ø76cm four-cluster round pendant gathers its clusters into one generous form over a round table or an island. Hang the lowest point around 75cm to 85cm above the tabletop.
