Argent Mon Bijou Pendant

A single Argent, Mon Bijou is a jewel on a thread. Dodo Arslan's sphere of hand-shaped stainless steel discs, around Ø20cm across, holds a small LED at its heart, and when it is lit the discs scatter the light in every direction, so a plain wall around it fills with soft, moving flecks of reflection. It is the second chapter of Argent, the cloud Arslan first designed for Terzani a decade earlier, and Terzani credits Paco Rabanne, Verner Panton, Julio Le Parc and the Italian seaside as its references.

The gold, sunset rose and champagne finishes are a durable PVD coating over the stainless steel. Stainless steel itself gives the coolest, brightest sparkle; the coloured finishes warm the light that comes off the wall.

A single pendant earns its place in small spaces where a larger light would crowd the room: either side of a bed, over a bedside table, in a cloakroom or above a reading chair. Grouped, they become something else. Three or five hung at staggered heights over an island or in a stairwell read as one composition, and the mini disc version, which replaces the canopy with a Ø5cm disc and a hidden remote driver, keeps the ceiling almost bare. The driver is included in the price. The wall sconce sets the same sphere against the wall, where the reflections are at their most dramatic: in pairs beside a mirror or a bed, or in a line down a corridor.
