Mizu Multi-Light Pendant

Mizu means water in Japanese, and Nicolas Terzani designed it around the way water bends light. Each drop is a piece of crystal shaped by hand by master craftsmen in Tuscany, so no two are alike. Light it and the crystal throws shifting, rippling patterns across the walls and ceiling, the same restless light you see on the floor of a pool on a bright day.

In the fifteen and twenty-six light compositions the drops hang at staggered heights from a single white canopy, so the piece reads as falling water caught mid-air rather than as a fitting. Nicolas Terzani leads the in-house design team at his family's lighting house in Florence, which has been making lights since 1972. Mizu is his own design, one he has described as a sculpture of light.

In the room. These are the Mizu compositions for volume. Hung in a stairwell or a double-height hall, the twenty-six light pieces fill the void with points of light and cast water patterns down the walls as you climb. Over a long dining table, the fifteen light rectangular canopy, 68 by 40cm, follows the line of the table, hung with the lowest drop about 75cm above the top. The round versions belong where the piece is seen from every side: over a round table, in an entrance hall, in a hotel lobby. The overall height is set on site up to 250cm, and longer drops for taller spaces are made to order.

Crystal changes the character of the light. Clear gives the sharpest, most brilliant patterns. Gold, champagne and cognac warm both the glass and the light it throws, cognac most deeply, and silver dust carries a fine shimmer within the crystal. Choose the integrated LED module at 3000K or a warmer 2700K, both dimmable on 0/1-10V, push or DALI, or dimmable G4 LED bulbs on DALI or trailing-edge dimming.
