Argent Mon Bijou Portable Lamp

The portable Argent, Mon Bijou takes Dodo Arslan's sphere of hand-shaped stainless steel discs off the ceiling and sets it down on a table, with no cable to plan around. A small LED glows inside the cluster, and the discs scatter it across the tabletop and the nearest wall, so even a single lamp makes a dinner table or a side table feel lit by candles made of metal.

It is the second chapter of Argent, the cloud Arslan designed for Terzani a decade earlier, and Terzani names its references as the fashion of Paco Rabanne, the work of Verner Panton, the mirrored art of Julio Le Parc and the light of the Italian seaside. The gold, sunset rose and champagne finishes are a durable PVD coating over the stainless steel.

Use one on a console, a bedside table or a bookshelf, or several down the centre of a long dining table, where they read like a run of jewels between the glasses. Restaurants and hotel bars can place them table by table without a single socket. At 1kg it is easy to move from room to room as the evening changes. A four-step dimmer is built in, and the battery runs from 5.5 hours at full brightness to 36 hours at its lowest setting, then recharges over USB. It arrives in a gift box.

Handmade by Terzani's craftsmen in Florence.
