Mizu Cluster Pendant

Mizu means water in Japanese, and Nicolas Terzani designed it around the way water bends light. Every drop is crystal shaped by hand by master craftsmen in Tuscany, so each one is slightly different from the next. Lit from within, the crystal sends ripples of light across the walls and ceiling, as if the room were sitting beside water.

In the three, five and seven light pendants the drops fall in a loose spiral from a compact round canopy, each crystal at its own height. The effect is of a short cascade, a few drops caught as they fall. Nicolas Terzani leads the in-house design team at his family's lighting house in Florence, making lights since 1972, and he has described Mizu as a sculpture of light.

In the room. The three light gathers its crystals within 35cm, which makes it the one to hang low over a kitchen island, a side table or a bedside, or in a row along a counter. The five and seven light pendants fall 75cm and 94cm, long enough to give a stairwell turn, a tall hallway or the corner of a double-height room a column of light. Over a dining table they work well in pairs or threes, set at different drops, with the lowest crystal about 75cm above the table top. Every version adjusts on site up to 190cm overall, and longer cords are made to order.

Clear crystal gives the brightest, sharpest patterns. Gold, champagne and cognac colour the light as well as the glass, cognac to a deep amber, and silver dust holds a fine shimmer within the crystal. The integrated LED module comes at 3000K or a warmer 2700K; dimmable G4 LED bulb versions suit anyone who prefers to change lamps themselves.
