Manta

Manta is a wave of crystal held in the air. Dodo Arslan and Nicolas Terzani gave it sinuous, undulating lines, so each piece looks like a ripple caught in mid-movement, and the small LED set into it is placed to make the most of the crystal's reflections. Lit, it sends soft, shifting light across the ceiling and walls, an effect Terzani compares to being underwater.

The crystal is the whole object. There is no shade or frame to look past, only the clear, thick form and a point of light inside it, which is why Manta suits rooms that are already quiet and well made. It comes in two sizes, Ø20cm and Ø26cm, and as a ready-made three-light cluster, and the pendants can be gathered into arrangements of almost any size.

A single small Manta works over a bedside table, a reading chair or a basin-side counter where a pendant is wanted but a large one would crowd the space. The larger Ø26cm piece carries more presence over a small round table or a console. The three-light cluster hangs its waves at different heights from one Ø25cm canopy, a good scale for a dining table for four or the turn of a staircase. For larger spaces, groups of Manta at staggered heights over a long table, through a stairwell or across a hotel lobby read like a shoal moving through the room; the mini disc version, with a Ø7.5cm disc and a remote driver, keeps the ceiling clean when many are hung together. The driver is included in the price.

Pendants are supplied for an overall height of up to 190cm, adjusted on site, with shorter drops to 30cm available on request. Manta is not suitable for sloped ceilings.
