Nappe Pelle Floor Lamp

Nappe is Marco Zito's reading of the nappine, the tassels that tie back the curtains in the rooms of Venetian palaces. Each piece stacks turned shapes, spheres, domes and drums, above a fringe of fine glass rods that the light runs down. Nappe Pelle wraps one of those drums in a stitched band of brown leather, set against a matt frame in Masiero's concrete grey, which brings the warmth of leather to the tassel. The leather version is made only in the larger Nappe XL and XM sizes.

Masiero showed Nappe Pelle as one of its new collections at Milan Design Week in April 2025, at its Milan showroom in Via Statuto. Masiero has made lighting at Casale sul Sile, near Treviso, since 1981, and makes each piece through the full cycle, from the metalwork up, in its own workshops.

The floor lamp hangs an XM1 tassel from the top of a slim arched stand, 165cm tall, so the tassel is suspended beside a chair rather than set on a lamp base. The frame is painted metal and the fringe is fine Pyrex rods. Two LEDs work together: one lights up into the tassel and one shines down through the fringe, giving a soft glow overhead and a pool of reading light below, and the lamp dims from its own button.

In the room

Place it at the shoulder of an armchair or the end of a sofa, where the tassel hangs at about head height when seated and the downlight falls on a book or a side table. Its footprint is only Ø30cm, so it fits beside a bed or in a corner without crowding the floor. In a living room with Nappe Pelle pendants, the floor lamp repeats the leather at a lower level and ties the scheme together.
