Antesia is four pendants in mouth-blown glass, and each one is a single moment in the making of a piece of Venetian glass. Stella Gianola and Giovanni Battista Gianola watched a gather of molten glass on the blowpipe, the glassblower's 'pea', swell and open into a finished vessel, and fixed four stages of it as four lamps. The name comes from anthesis, the botanist's word for the moment a flower opens.
The sizes nest. The smallest, Ø16cm, is a low dome of acid-etched pressed glass. In the Ø26cm and Ø35cm pendants that same form sits inside a blown bubble of transparent, light amber or smoky glass, so you see one lamp held within another. The Ø48cm is the open flower: a wide, softly concave form that comes in the same three colours or in misty amber, a light amber shell shaded to white. Above every size is a domed cap of galvanised metal in Masiero's G09 golden bronze, a polished earth tone.
The Gianolas showed Antesia at Masiero's showroom in Via Statuto, in Milan's Brera Design District, for Milan Design Week in April 2026. Masiero has made lighting at Casale sul Sile, near Treviso, since 1981, and makes each piece through the full cycle, from the metalwork up, in its own workshops.
In the room
Antesia was drawn to be mixed. Hung together at different drops, the four sizes read as one sequence, from bud to open bloom. Over a kitchen island of around 240cm, three Ø26cm or Ø35cm pendants in a line hold the length without crowding it. A single Ø48cm carries a round table of 120 to 140cm on its own, or anchors a loose group in a double-height hall. The Ø16cm is small enough for a bedside drop, either side of a bed in a pair.
The glass sets the mood. Transparent shows the inner form most clearly. Light amber warms the light and the room around it; smoky reads darker and more graphic by day. Masiero chose the glass to let light flow through freely and soften along the contours, and every size dims on a mains TRIAC dimmer.
