Regolo 8146/S Linear Pendant

Regolo is a linear pendant reduced to a bar and a sphere. A 122cm aluminium bar, only 12cm deep, hangs level with an opal methacrylate diffuser along its underside, and a single sphere of marble rests on it, Calacatta gold on the matte champagne and matte black versions, black Marquinia on warm grey. Italamp says the sphere gives the design its weight and preciousness against the lightness of the bar.

Regolo was designed by Stefano Traverso, born in Genoa in 1973 and a teacher at the Scuola Italiana Design in Padua since 2001. Italamp describes its straight lines and geometric shapes as recalling a 1970s aesthetic. It is the collection's original piece; the warm grey and black Marquinia version was added later, and the family now includes a longer 160cm pendant, wall lights and a floor lamp.

The 122cm bar suits a dining table of 180 to 220cm or a kitchen island of a similar length, and it is how Italamp's clients have used it: above the kitchen island of a private villa in Miami designed by Selekto Design, and over the island of a house at Villajoysa in Spain by Kristina Busko Design. A 24W LED module runs 2,000 lumens along the diffuser at a colour rendering over 90, an even line of light down onto the surface. The drop adjusts from 10 to 150cm, so the bar hangs 22 to 162cm below the ceiling, enough for almost any room: over a 90cm island, with the bar about 75cm above the worktop, it suits ceilings up to about 3.3m. It weighs only 4kg. Dimming is not included; TRIAC, 0-10V, DALI or Casambi is available on request.

Matte black with Calacatta is the sharpest contrast; matte champagne is the warmest; warm grey with black Marquinia suits a darker kitchen of stone and timber.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
