Regolo 8146/P Floor Lamp

Regolo is a floor lamp reduced to two elements: an upright aluminium bar 190cm tall, with an opal methacrylate diffuser running its length, and a sphere of marble at its foot. The sphere is Calacatta gold, white with soft gold veining, on the matte champagne and matte black versions, and black Marquinia on warm grey. Italamp describes the marble sphere against the lightness of the aluminium bar as the point of the design.

Regolo was designed by Stefano Traverso, born in Genoa in 1973 and a teacher at the Scuola Italiana Design in Padua since 2001. Italamp says the collection's straight lines and geometric shapes recall a 1970s aesthetic. The floor lamp completes a family that began as a linear pendant and now includes wall lights, so a single scheme can carry the same bar and sphere from the dining table to the corner of the living room.

With a footprint of only 17 by 17cm, Regolo fits where a conventional floor lamp will not: the corner beside a sofa, either side of a doorway, or against a pier between two windows. A 32W LED module gives 3,900 lumens at a colour rendering over 90, which is more than most floor lamps and enough to light a corner of a room properly. A touch sensor on the bar dims it, and that control is included.

Matte black with Calacatta reads strongest against pale walls; matte champagne is the warmest; warm grey with black Marquinia suits a darker, stonier palette.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
