Pulsa 439/S15 Chandelier

Fifteen long shades of fluted blown glass fall from a light gold canopy, each on its own cable and each at its own height, so the Pulsa S15 reads as a cascade of glass rather than a single fitting. It is 50cm across and 140cm from the top of the cluster to the lowest shade, with every shade curved slightly away from its neighbours.

Pulsa is by Danilo De Rossi, an architect and designer who has worked in Venice since the 1980s and has been Italamp's art director since 2016. Italamp describes the collection as recovering the dexterity of the classic glassworks with a modern interpretation. Each shade holds its own 3W G9 LED bulb, so the light runs down inside the glass and shows in the fluting, and TRIAC dimming is included as standard, with Casambi on request.

The S15 is made for height. In a stairwell or a double-height entrance it can hang at full drop through the void; over a round table of about 120 to 150cm it needs a tall room. With the drop adjustable from 10 to 100cm, the lowest shade sits 150 to 240cm below the ceiling, so over a table, with the lowest shade about 75cm above the top, it suits ceilings of roughly 3 to 3.9m. In a room with an ordinary ceiling, the round 6+6 or 8+8 is the better choice. The S15 weighs 30kg and needs a fixing into the structure.

The narrower S10 carries ten shades at 38cm across; the S30 and S45 are larger still, at 80cm and 100cm across.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
