Pulsa 439/S10 Chandelier

Pulsa 439/S10 is a vertical cluster of ten long glass shades, each one blown, fluted and curved, hanging at staggered heights from a single iron grey canopy. The glass is a shaded white, so the light runs down the ribs of each shade and fades towards its tip.

Italamp describes Pulsa as recovering the dexterity of the classic glassworks in a modern form, and the shades show it: every one is a separate piece of artistic blown glass with its own fluting and curve, so no two read quite alike. Each shade holds a 3W G9 LED lamp, and TRIAC dimming is included.

Danilo De Rossi has practised as an architect and designer in Venice since the 1980s. He took a master's degree in lighting design at the Milan Polytechnic, led creative direction at Leucos from 1996 to 2015 and at De Majo Murano from 1994, and has been Italamp's art director since 2016.

In the room, Pulsa S10 is a tall, narrow piece: 38cm across and 120cm from the top of the cluster to the lowest shade, on cables adjustable from 10cm to 100cm. That makes it a natural choice for a stairwell, a double-height hall or a landing, where it fills the vertical space a round chandelier cannot. Over a table it needs a ceiling of about 2.9m or more to keep the lowest shade 75cm to 85cm above the top. In a room of that height it also works as a single pendant beside a bed or over a reading chair. For a wider void, the 50cm S15 and 80cm S30 continue the same form.

At 30kg it is heavier than its outline suggests, so plan the ceiling fixing in advance.
