Pulsa 439/AP3 Wall Light

Three long shades of fluted blown glass fan upward from a metal band on the wall, curving slightly away from each other. It is the smallest piece in Danilo De Rossi's Pulsa collection, and it carries the same glass as the chandeliers: lit, the light runs up through the shades and shows in the fluting, and a wash of light spreads up the wall above and below.

Italamp describes Pulsa as recovering the dexterity of the classic glassworks with a modern interpretation, in long shades of fluted and curved blown glass. De Rossi has practised as an architect and designer in Venice since the 1980s, led the creative direction of Leucos from 1996 to 2015 and has been Italamp's art director since 2016.

At 65cm tall and 37cm wide, the AP3 is a substantial wall light. It works in pairs: either side of a fireplace, a large mirror or a bed, or spaced along a corridor at about 2.5 to 3m centres. Mounted with the band at roughly eye level, the shades rise above it and throw light up towards the ceiling. Used in the same room as a Pulsa chandelier, it ties a scheme together. An 11W LED module gives 1,050 lumens at a colour rendering over 90. Dimming is not included; TRIAC, 1-10V, DALI, push or Casambi is available on request. It weighs 5kg, so it needs a solid wall or a pattress.

Iron grey with white glass is the cooler of the two; light gold with dove glass is warmer and softer.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has made lighting since 1975 and is based at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
