Pulsa 439/6+6 Chandelier

Twelve long shades of fluted blown glass rise from a central iron grey hub in two tiers of six, some reaching upward, some curling back into open loops, so the 98cm chandelier reads differently from every side. Pulsa 439/6+6 is the roundest, fullest member of the family.

Danilo De Rossi has practised as an architect and designer in Venice since the 1980s and has been Italamp's art director since 2016. With Pulsa he went back to the dexterity of the classic glassworks and gave it a modern reading: each shade is a long piece of artistic blown glass, fluted along its length and curved like a ribbon, and the fluting breaks the light from the 32W module into fine vertical lines.

In the room, the 6+6 is 98cm across and 70cm tall, sized for a round dining table of 140cm or more or the centre of an entrance hall. The drop adjusts from 10 to 100cm on stainless steel cable, so the piece occupies between 80cm and 170cm below the ceiling; over a table, allow about 75cm between the lowest glass and the tabletop. The output is 4,300 lumens at a colour rendering over 90, a decorative main light for a dining room. Two glass colours are offered on the same iron grey structure: shaded white, which reads cool and bright, and dove, a warm grey-brown that gives the fluting more depth.

Made in Italy by Italamp, which has designed and made lighting since 1975 from its base at Cadoneghe, near Padua.
